In this time fraught with protests and conversations, Kelly Strayhorn Theater looks to the theme of resilience to characterize its sixth annual East Liberty Celebrates MLK event. Dr. King himself said, “There is no gain without struggle,” reminding us that advances in civil rights are incomplete without hard work and determination. Resilience furthermore resonates with KST as we continue our centennial season as the premier center of arts and entertainment in East Liberty.

Kelly Strayhorn Theater is partnering with local organizations in a celebration of Dr. King’s legacy of resilience. The day includes family-friendly activities and inspiring performances featuring Dreams of Hope, 1Hood, TCDC, Hope Academy, and KST’s resident ensemble Soundwaves. All events will take place on Monday, January 19, 2015.

Open to the community, the event is pay-what-you-can.

Fosco Grisendi presenta, dal 10 gennaio al 1 febbraio 2015, all’Officina delle Arti di Reggio Emilia, “Stand your ground”, progetto artistico che nasce da fatti di cronaca e si traduce nel mondo del wrestling. Curata da Chiara Serri, l’esposizione è promossa dal Comune di Reggio Emilia con il sostegno di RezArte Contemporanea e 1.1_Zenonecontemporanea.
Il titolo della mostra – “Stand your ground” – fa riferimento alla legge americana che consente ad una persona armata di uccidere un presunto aggressore in base alla mera percezione di pericolo per la sua incolumità. Da una riflessione sull’uso eccessivo della forza e l’abuso di potere nella società contemporanea, all’analogia con il mondo del wrestling, per indagare il confine sottile tra verità e menzogna, tra realtà e fiction.
In esposizione, dieci grandi dipinti ad acrilico su tela di juta e numerosi disegni su carta, opere autonome che costituiscono, tuttavia, il punto di partenza per la produzione pittorica.
Per la prima volta, l’attenzione di Grisendi non si concentra sui singoli quadri, ma sulla serie, dando vita ad un progetto di più ampio respiro. Rispetto alle opere del passato, generalmente ripartite su più livelli, il soggetto conquista il centro della scena, lasciando in sospeso i particolari non funzionali alla narrazione.
Manovre di sottomissione, tecniche aeree, calci volanti e, allo stesso tempo, scene di vita quotidiana, dominate da un senso di perdurante attesa. La continuità cromatica e formale genera il parallelismo tra queste ultime opere ed il wrestling, dove s’intrecciano realtà e finzione, dove gli atleti sono atleti, ma la performance è soprattutto spettacolo.
«Poche linee – scrive la curatrice – toni selezionati, aree di colore piatte e uniformi che sembrano guardare al mondo della grafica pubblicitaria e del fumetto. Una pittura pop, volutamente sintetica, che allude anziché descrivere, mettendo in secondo piano la verità anatomica a favore del pathos, del gesto e del movimento».
La personale, che sarà inaugurata sabato 10 gennaio alle ore 18.00, con una performance di Wiva Wrestling (www.wivawrestling.com), federazione italiana di wrestling con sede a Reggio Emilia, sarà visitabile fino al 1 febbraio 2015, sabato e domenica con orario 18.00-20.00, oppure su appuntamento. برنامج الزمالة في استخدام الليزر في طب الأسنان، والذي تقدمه جامعة جنوا في إيطاليا، هو عبارة عن برنامج دراسي يمتد على فترة عام واحد، ويتخلله دروس نظرية وتطبيقات عملية واختبارات.
هذا البرنامج سيقام خلال العام 2015 لأول مرة في مصر بالتعاون مع جامعة مصر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا. وسيحصل الطلاب في نهايته على شهادة:

“زمالة في استخدام الليزر في طب الأسنان”

سيقدم هذا البرنامج نخبة من أساتذة طب الأسنان في جامعة جنوا، الذين سيحضرون إلى مصر خصيصاً لهذه الغاية.

البرنامج سيقام في جامعة مصر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا، في مدينة 6 أكتوبر، على أربعة مراحل، تمتد كل منها لثلاثة أيام، وذلك وفقاً للتواريخ التالية:

The Fellowship Post-Graduate Diploma in Laser Dentistry
A Program offered by the University of Genoa, Italy
in Cooperation with
Misr University of Science and Technology

The Fellowship Post-Graduate Diploma in Laser Dentistry of the University of Genoa, Italy is a one-year course of study and examination in the use of lasers as an adjunct to clinical dental surgery and medicine.
Fellowship shall define a level of competence that is consistent with an experienced laser user. The course is designed to provide evidence-based core knowledge in laser use in dentistry and to refine practical skills. Emphasis is placed on the integration of this course into the on-going practice of dentistry for each participant and the future benefit of laser use for dental patients.

Elements of the course are didactic theoretical and applied clinical knowledge of laser use in all aspects of dental surgery and medicine. Additional aspects shall include the practical use of lasers and the compilation of clinical case presentations.

The teaching faculty is selected from members of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Genoa and accredited International specialists in laser dentistry.
Successful completion of the course and examination shall be recognized by the presentation of a certificate:

“Fellowship in Laser Dentistry”

The course is composed of four three-day modules.
Subjects to be covered shall be taken from the syllabus of ‘laser use in dentistry”, University of Genoa.

Preliminary Program:

Module I.
Laser photonic energy. Historical aspects of laser development.
Relationship of laser emission to “ordinary” light.
Production of laser photonic energy by solid-state, gas and semi-conductor- based laser machines. Emission modes.
Laser wavelengths in use in dentistry and an overview of their application.
Laser-tissue interaction. Clinical case design.
Laser Safety. Low-level laser energy use in dentistry.

Module II.
Laser use in oral hard tissue management.
Laser wavelengths and consideration of optimal power parameters relative to
absorption phenomena.
Laser interaction with enamel, dentine, cementum, dental caries.
Laser interaction with alveolar bone.
Laser use in endodontics – orthograde and retrograde applications.

Module III.
Laser use in oral soft tissue management.
Laser wavelengths and consideration of optimal power parameters relative to
absorption phenomena.
Laser use in the management of non-keratinised or “loose” soft tissue structures
– lining mucosa, frenula, ventral tongue.
Laser use in the management of keratinised or “fixed” soft tissue – gingiva,
dorsal tongue.
Laser use in periodontology – surgical and non-surgical applications.
Laser use in implantology.

Module IV.
Integration of lasers into dental practice – clinical and marketing aspects.
Practical sessions in laser use.
Presentation of clinical cases. LIVE OPERATIONS.
Multiple-choice examination – Diploma
Closing ceremony.

The four modules will be held at the Campus of Misr University of Science and Technology (MUST) in 6th October City- Egypt , as per the following dates:

Module 1: 6-7-8 March 2015
Module 2: 17-18-19 April 2015
Module 3: 5-6-7 June 2015
